Off the bottle

Of all the bottles we had, only 3 nipples survived by the beginning of the week. Monday during nap time, one more got pitched due to a bite mark That leaves one nipple left!

The boys are almost two and have been getting bottles of milk before nap and bedtime. It helps them calm down and get ready for bed. A lot of times they fall asleep on their bottle or shortly after.

With one nipple left, we decided it was time to get them off their bottle. Jacob did not take the news well. The first night he kept trying to go the kitchen to get a bottle. We gave him a sippy cup of milk but refused. I had to hold him crying till he fell asleep.

Jasper did pretty well without but also refused a sippy cup of milk. At one point he tried to give the sippy cup to Jacob, who was crying.

Joy and I kept battling over if we should go get them nipples. But as it turns out, I don't think there's any easy way for this and it's bad to keep them on their bottle.

This week, Heather and Kit came up from Texas. Yesterday, they went to Grandma's house and apparently Jasper played a zombie video game with Heather's brother. Jacob got fed chicken from various people. Hehe

Last night wasn't bad at putting them to sleep. Jacob took his sippy cup of milk and fell asleep on the floor. Jasper still refused the cup but didn't fight going to sleep.

Dudes' Day!!

Saturday we had a dudes day. Joy went out with her mom to celebrate her mom's birthday. They went out for donuts, the movies to see One For The Money, and shopping.

The boys had a rough night before. We were up a lot. They were both up from about 4:30 to 6 (Jacob) and 7 (Jasper). They both got up around 10:30.

We started the morning with Crisp Rice and a little bit of Kung Fu Panda II. We then tried to do some Zumba with some DVDs my mom got us. The boys were more interested in watching the girls exercise than exercise.

We then went upstairs to their playroom at their request. They tell us they want to go upstairs by knocking on the door. We played upstairs for awhile . I brought up Joy's iPod and we listened to music. I hung the speakers from the light switch. When "I love to laugh" came on from Mary Poppins they stopped what they were doing went looking for the TV.

After that, we went downstairs to do laundry and play in the studio. I'm really liking taking them down there. They love to play and it also gives me a chance to play too. We played the drums, guitar, and organ.

They had leftover pizza, hotdog, and Mac n Cheese for lunch. They ate really good.

I thought about skipping their nap since they slept in so late but after lunch, they both looked beat. Jacob went out right away and Jasper an hour later.

Joy's mom got the boys tennis balls to play with. Ace, our dog loves tennis balls. So we taught the boys to throw the ball for Ace. Ace seems like a new dog now. He seems happy and peppy. The boys, especially Jacob loves throwing the ball for him.

That night, I took the boys to the grocery store to get milk. I found one of those kids carts that looks like car. When I pulled the cart up to Jasper's door he got all giddy and started jumping in his car seat. His giddiness continued throughout the store. The boys got lots of compliments.

Sunday, Joy's mom came over and watched the boys. Joy and I went out for a bike ride. It was fun and cold. We then went to Wal Mart and Lowes to buy gardening supplies. We're getting ready for a massive garden this summer.

Last night, we watched the Super Bowl. We ordered Pizza. The boys took a late nap and didn't get until 6:30-7. They were pleasantly surprised when they were handed a slice of pizza right after waking up.

We're cutting back the milk

We are attempting to cut back the milk consumption for our boys. We go through about three gallons a milk a week, sometimes four. For some reason milk really helps them go to sleep at night and also nap time. I sometimes give them as much as two and half bottles at night.

So it's not wise to give the boys so much milk and with cost that goes into buying so much milk, we're starting to cut back.

We've been working on giving them one bottle of milk and substituting the rest with water. Last night was the first night of success and I believe Joy had success during nap time.

I think it's the laying down to concentrate on drinking that helps them go into dream land. We tried water before but usually they ended up just spitting it out.

Last night, Jasper was having so much fun taking his sheet off his bed. Joy and I were in the living room watching a movie while the boys were supposed to be sleeping but rather jumping and playing in their cribs. I heard Jasper pulling his sheet off and when I went in their room, Jacob was playing with Jasper's sheet. They're such good sharers.

I had a hard time getting Jasper to keep his sheet on so I gave up putting the sheet back on. He eventually went to sleep without a sheet. I was able to put a sheet on his crib and move him without waking him, only minutes after he went to sleep. Either I'm good or he was really tired.

They are both doing a great job at talking. Still gibberish with an occasional "da da" or "ma ma". This week Jacob started doing hand motions while he talks. It's really cutest thing. Some of his hand motions look like gangsta symbols. Hehe

Today, Joy said they all went to the store with Joy's mom and Jacob was talking to everyone. Sometimes people would talk back. I wish I were there!

This week, they also advanced their climbing abilities. They can now climb up into their highchairs. They have also been able to release their trays.

At one point, Jacob was climbing the high chair, holding on to the tray when Jasper released it on him. Jacob went falling down to the ground. Luckily, he was not hurt or even cry but that prompted me to put the highchairs away into the closet. Joy had to do the same thing after breakfast and lunch the next day and so on.

Last week, Jasper was main buddy. This week is Jacob. They really take turns with me.
